Courses - Introduction ABDO College is based in Godmersham, Kent and specialises in distance and blended learning education for the optical profession. It is the only college in the UK devoted solely to the teaching of the theoretical and practical aspects of ophthalmic dispensing and its related specialist areas. Available courses range from Access courses for those without GCSEs to advanced and honours courses allowing qualified professionals to specialise in specific fields of interest. ABDO College delivers the Fellowship Dispensing Diploma that was previously delivered by the Association of British Dispensing Opticians and its predecessors for approximately 70 years. Many years of experience combined with a new approach and commitment to quality standards have helped ABDO College to be quickly recognised as a centre of excellence for optical education. ABDO College strives to maintain the highest possible standards and to increase the standing of ophthalmic dispensing in the eyes of the professional, to raise public confidence and increase public understanding of the level of training achieved. ABDO College provides the Association of British Dispensing Opticians' three-year distance learning course for trainee dispensing opticians. This incorporates four-weeks of compulsory college attendance giving students an opportunity to consolidate their theoretical studies with practical laboratory sessions, tutorials and lectures.
